Larry Niven writes in the Ringworld/Ringworld Engineers about a “Tass” an electrical probe to the pleasure center of the brain. I imagine it would be very very addictive 🙂

If all the colors were the same, there would be no color names,
No spectrum, less variety, to symbolize reality.
And if there were no lights you see, no blindness would there ever be.
Relying on our hands to see, colliding often then we’d be.
And if we limited our voice, we’d begin to sound less choice.
Our thoughts become less understood, our thinking would become less good.
Once we deepened in regression, we’d require more group confession,
Checking in upon our neighbor, would become our sacred labor.
We’d force ourselves to stay agreed, check individuality.
We’d sacrifice our senses free, to censor our own liberty.

“A few months. That’s what we’re hoping. We’re working on it.”

“I especially like the mockingbirds.”

“Don’t worry. They’ll sing.”

For a moment, Carl thought he should feel sad about the mockingbirds, but he didn’t. Sadness wasn’t there. He went to the old place to find it, but it was gone.

Hmmm seems like a hard sell to me.

Very glad to be angry at the idea of collective sedation…as an artist I have fed on angst my whole life; it feeds the Muse, it brings color and feeling to life.

If you can feel pain, you know you are still alive. The boundary between pleasure and pain is a thin line…it modulates.

The pleasure of wonder and epiphany exceeds all others.

It’s particularly effective if they are moving pictures – as in TV – and the conditioning is repeated regularly – as in the nightly news…

Here’s an experiment that I often recommend to those that don’t believe they are being `conditioned.’

Try watching the TV news for two weeks with the sound turned completely off. Just look at the pictures and decide for yourself what you are seeing.

After two weeks turn the sound back on. Note if the pictures and films that you are watching and that you have now begun to interpret for yourself match the dialog that is being read to you by the talking heads.

Word must have gotten out because now they have those subtitles running most of the time, but give it a try anyway.

You will be surprised at how much your ability to decide and even reason for yourself has atrophied as the ruling elite condition the masses to believe whatever they are told…

If the masses can be conditioned this easily with just simple two-dimension TV, imagine the kind of mind control they will have in a ‘virtual world’…

Your essay reminds me of an old story by Arthur C. Clark called: “The Lion of Comarre.”

We had better not wait for the lion to come and rescue us though. We will need to do it for ourselves…

“…A slave is one who waits for someone to come and free him…” — Ezra Pound

Free your own mind…
